TCP/IP for Trusted Introductions
A hundred thousand sovereign graphs, exposing permissioned capabilities to each other. Nobody owns the network; every hop is a yes.
Twenty years out, the interesting object is not Magician the product. It is the protocol underneath: a way for sovereign relationship graphs — personal, corporate, academic, governmental — to answer each other’s intents without merging, without exposing membership, and without any central directory of who knows whom.
Picture an entrepreneur in Bangalore whose intent needs a capability buried three trust-hops inside Silicon Valley. She does not know the valley. She does not need to. Her graph federates with a Circle that federates with another; the network finds a trusted route; three people say yes with context in front of them; the introduction happens; the outcome seals. TCP/IP moved packets between machines that had never met. This moves trust between people who have not yet.
The split between brand and protocol is deliberate. Magician is the whimsical name humans remember. The wire formats underneath — trust/1 and introduction/1 — are boring on purpose, because institutions adopt boring formats. Both are documented, both are versioned, both verify offline with nothing but a hash function.
And both stay unpublished until the gate opens. The estate’s standing rule is that protocol work is funded by independent adoption, never ahead of it — a company whose investor asks it to publish a file is evidence about the relationship, not the format. The formats publish under Apache-2.0 the day the first Circle we do not control adopts them, and not a day before. The roadmap states the gate; the gate is the promise.
